Upwork Profile Optimization | Upwork SEO

If you think your Upwork profile needs improvements you landed in the right place.

I will recommend improvements that will help you appear higher in search results(SEO) and make clients click on your profile which can result in invitations or direct messages for important projects.

1. I propose that you try different profile titles, descriptions, skill tags, and other profile data for 30 days and store the resulting data for each day.

This will give you a clear idea based on real data of what works best for your profile.

You can use Google Sheets or any text-based software and track for each day what title, description, skill tags, and any other modifications you made to your profile and see how many:

- profile views you got

- direct messages you received

- job invitations you got

At the end of the 30 days, you will have a clear understanding of what works and what does not based on data from each day.

You want to make sure that you make the best decisions based on good information.

NOTE: The changes don't need to be drastically different each day. Maybe some days with fewer changes and others with more significant ones.

2. Now let's go to keywords. Identify the keywords that are the most important to you and which you think will bring you the ideal clients.

There is also a way to see the top searches of clients by typing in the search field from the client's view and Upwork will start autocompletion with 5 terms.

Search Engines rely mainly on text, so if you don't have your most important keywords on your profile you won't appear in searches for them.

After you find your keywords, you have the following places where you can add them to your profile:

- title

- description

- skill tags

- certifications

- employment history

- other experiences

- specialized profiles

But you want to add them in a creative, human-friendly way because humans will contact and hire you.

3. After you update your profile with the keywords, it's time to go to talent search and do searches with the keywords and see if you appear at all.

You want to add filters to the results to narrow down and see your profile quickly on the first page.

A way of doing that is to temporarily increase your hourly rate to $90+ and use the filter to show people with hourly rates of $90 and above

4. I make searches daily on my top keywords to see what profiles rank on the first page and I check them to see if I'm missing anything on mine.

5. Another thing to stand out a little in front of client's searches is to be online.

In search results, profiles that are online have a green dot next to their profile image.

It might influence a client to send you a message or invite you to their job knowing that you can respond fast because you are online.

I keep the Upwork app always open when I'm at my computer.

6. And this is my strategy to optimize a profile.

I hope it was useful and I'm looking forward to your feedback in the comments.
